Al Fay Street Project construction and map improving traffic and connectivity in Dubai

Dubai is taking another major step toward improving its infrastructure with the Al Fay Street Project. This Dh1.5 billion initiative, led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is designed to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity across the emirate. Once completed, this project will benefit over 600,000 residents and visitors, improving daily commutes and contributing to Dubai’s sustainability goals.

Let’s explore how this project will reshape transportation in Dubai and support the city’s long-term growth.

What Is the Al Fay Street Project?

The Al Fay Street Project is a large-scale development aimed at enhancing road capacity and reducing congestion in Dubai. The project spans from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, covering 13,500 meters of bridges and 12,900 meters of roads.

When completed, the project will handle up to 64,400 vehicles per hour, ensuring smoother traffic flow and better connectivity for residential and commercial areas.

The Purpose Behind the Al Fay Street Project

Dubai has grown rapidly in recent years, leading to increased traffic congestion in many areas. The Al Fay Street Project was initiated to address this challenge. It supports Dubai’s strategic goal of creating a more sustainable and efficient road network.

Guided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this project aims to meet the needs of a growing population while ensuring better mobility for businesses and residents.

Key Features of the Al Fay Street Project

The project includes several innovative features that will make travel easier for residents and visitors:

The project is being carried out in two main phases, each focusing on specific intersections and key traffic points.

Phase 1: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection

The first phase involves building a 1,255-meter bridge to handle left-turn traffic from Al Khail Road to Emirates Road. This bridge will have two lanes and accommodate 3,200 vehicles per hour. Expanded service roads will also ensure better traffic flow.

Phase 2: Key Development Zones

The second phase includes:

  • Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City Intersection: A new 960-meter, four-lane bridge will handle 14,400 vehicles per hour, improving traffic between these zones.
  • Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street Intersection: Two bridges—one with three lanes and another with five lanes—will accommodate 18,600 vehicles per hour, supporting smoother movement in all directions.

How the Project Will Ease Traffic

The Al Fay Street Project is a vital solution to Dubai’s traffic challenges. It will:

  • Increase Road Capacity: New bridges and roads will handle higher traffic volumes, reducing congestion.
  • Enhance Connectivity: Improved intersections and service roads will link major highways seamlessly.
  • Reduce Travel Times: Better-designed roads will allow faster commutes, benefiting both residents and businesses.

A Focus on Sustainability

The Al Fay Street Project contributes to Dubai’s sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions from idling vehicles. Shorter travel times and smoother traffic flow mean less fuel consumption and fewer pollutants. The project also uses eco-friendly construction techniques to minimize environmental impact.

Why Is the Al Fay Street Project Important?

The Al Fay Street Project is not just about road improvements—it’s about preparing Dubai for the future. By addressing current traffic issues and supporting population growth, the project ensures Dubai remains a global leader in urban innovation.
